Kanata Pod is a podcast series featuring forward thinking Indigenous creators, dreamers and activators with a vision toward the next 150 years in Canada.
Lisa Girbav comes from the Tsimshian territory on her mother’s side, and grew up in the coastal community of Prince Rupert. She works in radio broadcasting and communications, focusing on Indigenous media, while she is currently enrolled at UBC. While studying, she acknowledges that she is an uninvited guest on the traditional, ancestral and unceded land of the Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Skwxwu7mesh, and Tsleil-Waututh people. When she is not studying, she is usually practicing her language of Sm’algyax, working on cedar weaving projects or exploring the northwest.
Khelsilem joins host Lisa Girbav to talk about Indigenous languages and the work that should be down to bring some Indigenous languages from the brink & others back to flourishing & instructive parts of Indigenous existance.
